The Burnout Challenge

In The Burnout Challenge (to be released 15 Nov 2022) Christina Maslach and Michael P. Leiter make the case for designing work for people.

Rather than helping people to endure their workplace, the job is bringing about better relationships of people with their work. 

Decades of research has described the prevalence of burnout, the workplace mismatches that aggravate burnout, and its consequences on wellbeing and productivity. The Burnout Challenge describes what needs to happen to prevent burnout from happening. The key is not so much building individual resilience as designing work that does not require quite so much resilience.
